Most Hawaii buyers who hire us to help them find the right Kona or Kohala Coast home are looking for a vacation property that will eventually serve them in retirement. The west side of the Hawaii Island is a very attractive destination, but not because it has a relative low cost of living. It doesn’t. Our cost of living is significantly higher than the US average. West Hawaii is an attractive vacation home destination, but not because it has great shopping and outstanding nightlife. Nope. The tiny handful of bars in Kona’s downtown waterfront area cannot be accurately described as nightlife.
However, West Hawaii’s Kona Kohala coast offers plenty of dependably sunny, tropical weather, lots of golf and tennis choices, outrigger canoe paddling, surfing, swimming, and plenty of opportunities to rest and relax. Spend the day reading a book at the beach. Nap in a hammock on your lanai. Volunteer for baby turtle release day. Dress casually for an evening concert at the Kahilu Theater. Get used to home grown papaya and apple bananas for breakfast. Slow down to Hawaii time.
Kona Kohala condo values have fell drastically in 2008, but prices have been slowly creeping up. Some neighborhoods are back to their pre-crash values, but there are still plenty of neighborhoods that are still a relative bargain. There are plenty of excellent buys in West Hawaii for those who dream of wintering and eventually retiring in the tropical Pacific.
When you are ready to start looking for Hawaii Island real estate, ask Diana to subscribe you to a custom new listings email feed. As new properties come on the market you will receive an email with property details and photos. Or, try our Sotheby’s property search mobile app.
SIR Mobile is the only real estate mobile app that works on all devices, and it can also search for international properties. Our app allows you to view properties based on GPS location, address, city or postal code (96738, 96743 or 96740). Property information includes price, bed/baths, taxes, high-quality photos and more. If you see something of interest and would like to request a showing, instead of using the app’s “call” feature (which will direct you to the seller’s agent), choose your own representation by dialing 808-937-9807 to reach Diana directly. The Kohala Coast resort areas, North Kohala, Kamuela, Honoka’a and Kona town are our areas of expertise. Let us help you find your Hawaii home.
